The first lab assignment I have my students complete is the kit checklist. I created my own Google Doc checklist that students have to either make a copy of or download, fill out and upload to the assignment module in Canvas (our LMS) along with a photo of their kit contents. This helps because students have to go through the kit to complete the checklist and note if anything is missing right away. The photo I require has also been very handy because when the student says they are missing something later in the semester, I can refer back to that photo for evidence that they indeed had the item at the beginning of the semester.

Many of our instructors choose to use this checklist as an assignment! It ensures that your students have everything they need on the front end of the course, to prevent any last-minute confusion while working in their investigations! Love it!
